Celebrating Black History Month

Diversity Mark Schools came together on Monday 16th October 2017, with students showcasing their talents in an evening titled ‘Icons of History’. This event was a celebration of unsung icons and iconic moments that have shaped history. Two Diversity Mark Schools: Belmont Castle Academy (BCA) and Horndon on the Hill Church of England Primary School worked together to host a sold out event at Thameside Theatre.

Pupils from Belmont Castle Academy told the story of the first migrants who arrived in Tilbury on the Empire Windrush in 1948, bringing with them music and culture not previously known in Britain. Pupils from Harris Primary Academy, Gable Hall, Harris Mayflower, and Harris Academy Chafford Hundred came together to showcase exceptional talent in their pupils. Pupils from BCA performed authentic calypso and Horndon C.E Primary also gave an excellent performance of Mary Seacole.
